Frequently Asked Questions...

What is therapy like? How long does therapy last?

Therapy is a very individualized process and may vary based on the needs and goals of the client. First we will meet for an intake session so I can get to know you and the goals you want to achieve. We will always work collaboratively while we examine the patterns and factors that contribute to struggles you face, as well as what works well for you. Some problems may require only short-term therapeutic support. Some problems require more intensive support for longstanding challenges.

Is what we discuss confidential?

Yes. I take care to ensure that the information you present to me remains private, unless I feel there is an imminent danger for you, someone else, or a court subpoena requires me to give information. We will cover this along with my practice policies during the intake session.

What is Applied Behavior Analysis?

Applied Behavior Analysis is the application of evidence-based interventions to increase meaningful and positive behaviors. These principles of learning can be applied to all ages and levels of ability and focus on building skills and utilizing client strengths and preferences to achieve goals.

What is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy?

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy assumes that our behaviors and emotions are a by-product of our thoughts and beliefs. In CBT, these thoughts are challenged to find more positive and realistic ways of looking at situations.  CBT has been demonstrated to be effective for many common concerns, such as anxiety, phobias, depression, and compulsive behavior.

What is Acceptance and Commitment Therapy?

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is based on teaching mindful awareness, cognitive flexibility, and acceptance strategies. It focuses on the individual and unique values that each client has as motivation for behavior change and goal achievement.

Do you provide services for individuals who are not diagnosed with autism spectrum disorders or developmental disabilities?

Yes. My experiences as a clinical psychologists has also included assessment and treatment of other disorders of childhood, such as attention deficit disorder, learning disabilities, anxiety, school refusal, and challenging behavior problems. Call for a free consultation.

What are your fees?

My fee is $175.00 (effective January 2022) for a 45-minute session. The initial intake is a one-time fee of $250 as it is for a 60-90 minute session and involves review of documentation, intake paperwork, assessments, and case conceptualization. Payment is accepted in the form of cash, check, or credit card.

Do you take insurance?

I am an "out of network" provider and full payment is due at the time of service. However,  your insurance plan may provide some reimbursement for therapy (usually up to 80%) when you have met your deductible limit. Flexible spending accounts (FSA) and health savings accounts (HSA) can also be used as payment if offered by your employer. If your insurance company provides out-of-network benefits, I will provide you with an invoice called a “superbill” that you will submit to your insurance company for reimbursement.

Out-of-network services may be covered in full or in part by your health insurance or employee benefit plan. We recommend checking your coverage by asking the following questions of your insurance carrier:

  • Do I have out-of-network mental health benefits?

  • What is my deductible and has it been satisfied?

  • How many sessions per calendar year does my plan cover?

  • How much does my plan cover for an out-of-network provider?

  • What is the coverage amount per therapy session?

Cancellation Policy

Consistent attendance is critical to the success of therapy and clients are encouraged to make every attempt to come to scheduled appointments. I require 24 hours notice of cancellation for appointments or clients will be billed the full rate for the missed session.
